The hardwoods were lightly thinned in 2001 with wildlife habitat in mind. With the main focus of the current owners being trophy whitetails, several small clear-cuts were created to help with deer production. There is excellent natural forage, good acorn mast, as well as, a well thought out system of food plots. This tract has been trophy managed for ten years now. State highway to access the tract with a well crowned gravel and lime stoned road that is a solid back bone to the many trails and fingers throughout the property which connects all the food plots, deer stands, and camp facilities. This property is bordered by Buckhorn WMA on two sides, a high fence area on one side, and La. Hwy 4 on the North side.
Tensas parish is not only known for its 59 record book bucks, including James McMurry’s 281 6/8s 30pt non-typical which is one of the top ten in North America, but also is home to some legendary waterfowl hunting. This tract has four new pit blinds in the WRP shallow water impoundments. Also the makings of a first class green tree reservoir are only a little dirt work away.
This area of Northeast Louisiana affords abundant wildlife mostly because of the bottomland hardwood habitat as well as the fertility of the Mississippi River delta soils.
